Food!

We have recently been introduced to the M&S Food Hall and since then we try to divert from shopping in a nearby Sainsbury's and Tesco which shelves layouts we know by heart now. As 'the other' Kate stated once 'nothing tastes as skinny feels', I am officially going on a diet trying to resist British invention of ready meals. Keep your fingers crossed for my progress of shedding some fat off my butt to be able to fit in my Simple's trousers again, trousers which I must add, used to be LOOSE around my waist before I moved to Scotland.

Actually I hope that my weight gain is connected not so much with a change in geographical location as my change in age (I remember my friend Agata telling me that past the age of 30 one starts to gain weight in strange places like upper arms and ones chest seems to broaden as well!) and prohibition of any exercise after my eye surgery. So I am doing things gently but I must say a daily fast walk around Meadows (I cannot run) is going to bring desired results as I am sweating like a pig just before a heart attack.

So hi to my fellow joggers - Malgosia in Netherlands and Liska in Haddington! Tomorrow I am walking down for a lecture at SNPG in my Camper heels which equals quite an exercise as they are made of rubber and weight a ton. I will have to leave at least 45 minutes earlier than is normally required!

Meanwhile some images of food - cupcakes in St Andrews day before the Royal Wedding and Simon at Wagamama in Glasgow.

My Mum is visiting us this Easter and Simon very kindly got the tickets for us, Ls and our guest to see the latest production of the Scottish Ballet. What an appropriate name it has:

Evening in Dakota

Yesterday my friend Sejin very kindly dragged me for an evening out and we had a good several hours long banter over coffee and scones. Sejin invited me to participate in her new project where I will be impersonating her and I genuinely think we have lots in common (and it is not only our taste in shoes!). We struck a very good relation straight away during our first days at ECA because one is able to be real friends with people who one admires. I like Sejin because she is talented, focused and determined and I like the way she thinks not only about her work but also about life in general. She has this unique 'bullshit detector' which I do admit, I am sometimes able to loose when overenthousiastic about someobody, while she always stays true to herself.

The very last image courtesy of Sejin Moon.

* Gosh, my head is soooo big:

I am including a portrait of mine she took a while ago on the beach. I hope I will be a cooperative subject as I think the whole idea is very Sophie Calle, only it will be beautifully photographed!

This is soooo me!

Spring has vanished today into a freezing wind so it is the best time to dream about Italy! Approximately at the same time last year we went for a quick getaway to Florence dodging the volcano ash cloud and having a wonderful time. Katherine Hepburn was 48 when the film was made (1955) and I am thinking more and more about how society perceives women in their 40s. I am unstoppably getting there although my mental age stopped somewhere around 26-27...

Spring continues

I hope you will all understand why blogging had to be exchanged for a nice time in the sunshine (we were soooo deprived of that in Scotland in recent weeks!) with the work fit in between and some cultural events thrown in as well.

A fellow Edinburgh photographer Laurence Winram joined us to see the latest photography exhibition in Edinburgh which is the collection of portraits by August Sander. And talking about all the things German (our friends there would be happy) we have just finished watching a great documentary series about German culture of the Enlightment by Al Murray (his German Adventure). He is a British stand up comedian who made his money on laughing at various European nations as a pub landlord caracter. I have heard one joke about Poles ('how dare they bring their work ethic to our country?!' or something like that) but he was a bit more ruthless with Germans so he decided to cooperate with BBC 4 and produce a programme that explains how fascinating country Germany is. So let's hope we will be able to have a wee break in Berlin soon!
